Buffalo Springfield – For What It’s Worth

"For What It's Worth" is a song by Buffalo Springfield, written by Stephen Stills and recorded on December 5, 1966, before being released as a single on Atco Records that December. Inspired by the Sunset Strip curfew riots rather than the Vietnam War, as is commonly assumed, the song quickly became a well known protest song of the era and reached number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 in the spring of 1967. It was later added to the March 1967 reissue of the band's debut album, Buffalo Springfield, and has since been ranked among Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Its chorus was later interpolated into Akon's 2005 single "Belly Dancer (Bananza)", carrying the song's melody into a new generation of listeners.
