Sunny Neji – Tolotolo

"Tolotolo" is a song by Sunny Neji, another highlife inflected cut from his 2003 album, Unchained, the same record that produced "Oruka" and "Face Me." Taking its title from the Yoruba word for a turkey, or more loosely a bird that flutters without direction, the lyrics used the image as a metaphor for conspicuous consumption, mocking people who flash small money and loud clothing while comparing them to a bird that cannot fly straight. Neji balanced the satire with a personal twist, casting himself as the little bird once counted out who ultimately rose above the doubters.
