Sunny Neji – Mr. Fantastik

"Mr. Fantastik" is a song by Sunny Neji, the title track of his 1997 sophomore album, released after his 1991 debut, Captain, had introduced him as a highlife influenced singer blending funk, pop, juju, and Congolese guitar textures into his sound. The album became a nationwide breakthrough for the Cross River State born singer, hanging the nickname "Mr. Fantastik" on him for the rest of his career and setting up the run of hits that followed, including Roforofo in 2000 and the wedding staple "Oruka" in 2003. Nigerian music writers have repeatedly pointed to it as the record that turned Neji into a household name, a status the City People profile of him still referenced decades later. The song remains inseparable from the persona it built, with Neji still introduced by the nickname it gave him.
