Jennifer Rush – The Power of Love

"The Power of Love" is a song by Jennifer Rush, released in December 1984 as the fifth single from her self-titled debut album through CBS Records. Co-written by Rush along with Mary Susan Applegate, Gunther Mende, and Candy DeRouge, and recorded in Frankfurt, Germany, where Rush was based, the power ballad had little initial impact in West Germany but climbed to number one on the UK Singles Chart for five weeks in October 1985 after a sixteen week rise, becoming Britain's best-selling single of that year and making Rush the first female artist to have a million-selling single in the UK. The song also topped the charts in several other countries, including Canada, Australia, and South Africa, and was later covered by Air Supply, Laura Branigan, and Céline Dion, whose 1993 version topped the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. It remains one of the best-selling singles of all time, with sales exceeding a million copies in the UK alone.
