"Cleanin' Out My Closet" is a song by Eminem, released in July 2002 as the second single from his fourth studio album, The Eminem Show, through Aftermath, Shady, and Interscope Records. Unlike the Slim Shady persona used on the album's lead single "Without Me," the song was autobiographical, with Eminem addressing his strained relationship with his mother, Debbie Mathers, and his absent father. It reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100 and was used in the theatrical trailer for Eminem's film 8 Mile later that year. In 2013, Eminem revisited the subject on "Headlights" from The Marshall Mathers LP 2, naming this song directly as he offered an apology to his mother.
