Eedris Abdulkareem – Jaga Jaga

"Jaga Jaga" is a song by Eedris Abdulkareem, the title track of his controversial 2004 album released through Kennis Music. Rapped over a stripped down beat with the refrain "Nigeria jaga jaga, everything scatter scatter, poor man dey suffer suffer," the track condemned corruption and government failure in blunter terms than most mainstream Nigerian music dared at the time. Then President Olusegun Obasanjo personally banned the song from state radio and television and publicly criticized Abdulkareem, a feud that resurfaced repeatedly over the following two decades, including when Obasanjo condemned the song again in 2012 and when Abdulkareem answered with "Jaga Jaga Reloaded" in 2021. The song remains one of the most cited protest records in Nigerian music history, still invoked by politicians and commentators whenever the state of the country comes into question.
